Maxine Harraway
My work as an artist and fine art photographer is quite eclectic, at times influenced by the classics and others by my current everyday surroundings. I am particularly attracted to patterns - the fractals in nature, whether natural or man-made, or the repetition and need for order in our everyday lives, and have applied these both in my photography and in my threaded pieces. In my photography I am also fascinated by the way light and shade (chiaroscuro) can create a particular atmosphere or add an effect to influence the viewers interpretation of the image. I am both an ‘Aget’ - documenting my surroundings, and a ‘Sugimoto’ - playing with what is real and what is created, representing both the fine art and the documentary.
