Lizzie Cannon
Lizzie's work is inspired by things that are discarded, disregarded or hidden. As a nature enthusiast living in inner-city London, she has developed a fascination for the small fragments of plant life that are often overlooked in the urban environment. Using textiles, sculpture, photography and drawing, she creates imaginary species that have found their niche in the city. Through their construction and reference to location, the works are often ambiguous as to whether they are made or found. "Nature" is presented as a product of symbiosis between what humans consciously construct and what might occur beyond our control.
Lizzie Cannon (b.1980 Essex, UK) studied Geography at University of St. Andrews, Scotland (1998-2002) then chose to follow an art career studying at Central St. Martins College of Art and Design (2002-2003) and Goldsmiths College, London (2003-2006). She has exhibited both as an individual and collaboratively in London and Hove and currently has work in the Jerwood Drawing Prize Exhibition which is touring the UK.
