Lizzie Cannon
As an nature enthusiast living in inner-city London, Lizzie has developed a fascination for the small fragments of plant life that are often overlooked in the urban environment. Using textiles, sculpture, photography and drawing, she creates imaginary species that have found their niche in the city.

In Untitled plants (2006) shy fronds of moss have grown to a phenomenal size. Camouflaging to the tarmaced surface, the "plants" suggest that they have adapted to the highly manipulated growing conditions of the urban landscape. They are a product of symbiosis between what humans consciously construct and what might occur beyond our control.

Concrete Landscapes (2007) depict a bleak urban scene. In these sparse urban landscapes, eerie life forms strive to exist. It is ambiguous whether they are being submerged by their concrete surroundings or are emerging from it.
